Care

We play a vital role in campaigning and advocating for the rights and welfare of workers in the care sector, serving as a collective voice for caregivers, ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We negotiate with employers to establish standards that prioritize both employee well-being and quality care for residents.

Make Work Better

Our campaign to improve pay, terms and conditions at Amazon began on February 13 2013, when we staged numerous protests outside Amazon sites across the UK. This action continued a regular basis throughout the year, culminating in BBC Panorama conducting an investigation which aired on November 25; conditions throughout Amazon were noted as a cause of ‘mental and physical illness’ to members of staff.

Amazon

GMB members are leading the fight to make work better in Amazon, campaigning for union recognition and a proper pay rise. Amazon is one of the richest companies on the planet, making huge profits off the backs of its workers, yet Amazon workers earn just pennies above the minimum wage, face brutal working conditions and are under constant surveillance in the company’s distribution centres.

Asda Equal Pay

Each year on November 06 ASDA retail workers, who are mainly women, start working ‘for free’ when compared to their counterparts in the depots who are mainly men. Shamefully, this means that ASDA are profiting from the undervaluing of their entire retail workforce during the busiest time of year - the festive season.

Funeral Benefit

As part of your membership benefits, a provision has been made to support your next of kin in the event of your passing. They are entitled to claim a funeral benefit of £400, which can help alleviate some of the financial burden associated with funeral expenses. This benefit is designed to provide a measure of relief and support to your loved ones during a challenging period.

Transport Contingency Fund (TCF)

The Transport Contingency Fund (TCF) is a supportive initiative designed to assist GMB members who face financial difficulties due to motoring offences, such as receiving speeding or parking fines. This fund aims to alleviate the financial strain that such unexpected penalties can impose, ensuring members can manage these situations without significant economic hardship.

Legal

All members have access to free legal assistance, from a team of expert personal injury and employment lawyers.

Whilst most law firms work on a “no win no fee” basis, in the event of a successful result they can take up to 25 per cent of any compensation you are awarded. As a member of the GMB, you will always receive 100 per cent of any compensation you are awarded, ensuring you will never be left out of pocket!
