Each year on November 06 ASDA retail workers, who are mainly women, start working ‘for free’ when compared to their counterparts in the depots who are mainly men. Shamefully, this means that ASDA are profiting from the undervaluing of their entire retail workforce during the busiest time of year - the festive season.
The pay gap between retail and depot workers is a staggering £3 per hour. That equates to hundreds or even thousands of pounds of stolen wages for retail workers. We believe ASDA retail workers should be treated fairly, and must be paid the same as their depot colleagues.
Tens of thousands of your colleagues are challenging ASDA on this very issue. They have taken out something called an 'equal pay claim', where retail workers take legal action against ASDA because they are paid less than depot workers.
When we win, all our members signed up to the claim will get back dated pay, and going forward ASDA will have to pay retail workers fairly. Join our historic fight today and send a clear message to ASDA that they must treat all staff fairly!
